Chris Estrada

Munzón Gallery is pleased to present Chris Estrada: Love Songs on the Radio, the artists second solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition features a collection of screenprinted works, created with the intention of exploring the relationship between imagery and song. 

Love Songs on the Radio’s intentions are to evoke the visceral feelings that surface when we hear a love song that resonates with us, that finds us at the exact time and place that we need it. As simplistic as a love song may initially appear, the emotional impact it may have can never be overstated. The power of a love song to perfectly mirror a moment, amplify infatuation or wholly consume the listener is second to none, and this body of work aims to reflect that. Exploring the timeless sensations of pulse pounding passion, palpable desire and tension hanging as hot and heavy as a summer night, Love Songs was spawned in the back seat of a car, with the sound of Art Laboe’s dedications flooding the airwaves.

Chris Estrada is a Southern California based printmaker specializing in screenprinted works in a variety of techniques, including zines, flatstock and bootleg band shirts. Drawing influences from the late seventies to early eighties punk record and flyer art, as well as the bold graphics that run rampant throughout American popular consumerist culture, Estrada aims to craft the perfect imagery to pair with the sounds bouncing throughout his brain. 

Estrada earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in printmaking from California State University, Long Beach in 2019. He has exhibited works with Munzón Gallery, Burning Bones and CU Art Museum. Estrada is a member of the Speedball Professional Artist Network and has appeared on numerous art-related podcasts, including the esteemed Hello, Print Friend.
