Nimodo, is a Spanish saying that means oh well or it is what it is. It can be a comforting phrase that accentuates a funny moment or softens the conveyance of bad news. In Sergio Teran’s current exhibition "Nimodo" presents paintings that contemplate the duality of life and death and the persistence of memory. Teran’s imagery walks the viewer through daydreams and distorted realities, his ruminations animated by the images, residual memories, and associations captured in analog technologies. These unwitting archives become threads connecting the metaphysical world and the past to beings still entangled in the present. “Nimodo” uncovers moments that are discerned through Teran’s first-generation experience, touching on wider notions of class, interculturalism, and socio-cultural identity and mythologies.
